The Taeuffer line goes back several generations in Alsace, Bas-Rhin, France. Or Germany. The patriarch from each generation served as Mayor of the small village. Or Burgermeister, depending on who had possession of the area at that time.

My great great grandparents Jacques Taeuffer and Sophie Winter are the link to all the wonderful cousins we discovered living in Alsace. My sisters and I are so very grateful that we have had the opportunity to come to know and adore them.

Jacques and Sophie had three children who lived to have children of their own. My great grandfather, Ernest was the only one who decided to emigrate to the United States. Our Alsatian cousins are descended from his older brother George.
